Pride and Prejudice Yarn Club Colourway Reveal: A Fine Thing
Well, here we are, the first Pride and Prejudice yarn colourway, yay! We have so much to relish in the first Volume of P&P, it’s a treasure trove of iconic moments: Mr. Darcy's infamous insult, Jane and Bingley's blossoming romance, Jane's unexpected illness, Mr. Wickham's gossip, Elizabeth and Darcy's dance, and Mr. Collins's clumsy proposal. Phew, talk about action packed! There’s an abundance of inspiration here, with endless potential for colourways.
Nevertheless, I had to make a decision, so I chose to focus my attention on the opening scene. Something that really stands out to me about the start of P&P is, in fact, not the hugely famous (and brilliant) first line, it is the dialogue between Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. In such a short conversation, we learn so much about both of their personalities and what we might expect in the coming chapters. I have the biggest soft spot for Mr. and Mrs. Bennet; they are both fantastically entertaining characters and play such important roles throughout the book.
My colourway “A Fine Thing” is inspired by Mrs. Bennet's anticipation of a wealthy suitor for her daughters. There is such a hum of excitement in the air, and yet what may seem obvious now might not turn out the way we think (for instance, Bingley is not the leading man in this story).
I wanted to create a colourway that was very soft and subtle as I believe, even though Mrs. Bennet is anything but subtle, there are a lot of subtle and clever little things going on here.
In a way, I kind of think of it like a lace doily, that may seem simple at first but is actually more and more intricate the closer you look. Such subtlety in a colourway is also quite tricky to produce which seemed fitting for the theme.
I'd love to hear what you think of this colourway. Let me know in the comments or want to chat about all things P&P, I'm just a message away.
Happy making and happy reading.

Simply beautiful
Softest and squishiest yarn I’ve ever felt! The colours were gorgeous, especially the subtle pink, and I adored how they were themed around different parts of the book and thought they reflected the story beautifully. I also appreciated the letters and additional material included. Would give it 10 stars if I could!
