Winter Yarn Club Colours

Winter Yarn Club Colours

Winter settled in deeply here in the Adelaide Hills. It was a wet and wild season, with all the rain we had been hoping for through summer and autumn arriving in droves. The creeks were running, and the ground was slippery with moss and mud.

For me, this meant more days curled up by the fire, knitting with a hot drink in hand, and watching the changing moods of the bush through the window rather than exploring. Still, those quieter days had their own kind of beauty, and they inspired the yarns I created for that winter’s Nature Trails Yarn Club.

4ply Winter Yarn Club Colourway: Forest Bathing

The Japanese term shinrin-yoku means to “taking in the forest atmosphere” or “bathing in the forest.” It’s a gentle practice of immersing yourself in nature with your senses, simply by slowing down and being present among the trees.

I’ve really tried to embrace this this winter, and encouraged myself to get out walking in the bush. Even though the weather has not been ideal, there is a certain magic in the air when everything is wet and misty. The bush smells amazing and everything looks a little different, with a pinch of mystery about it.

The health benefits of forest bathing are perhaps even more important in winter than any other time of year, as this is when we can be more susceptible to lower energy and mood, at least that’s the case with me. I’ve definitely felt the benefits of getting outside among the trees in my gumboots and raincoat.

With this colourway, I wanted to bundle up the essence of the forest around my home, so that even if you can’t get out among the trees right now, you can feel the effects through your knitting.

8ply Winter Yarn Club Colourway: Fairy Wren Hop

Something that never fails to give me a little boost at this time of year are the sweet little fairy wrens that hop around by our front door and windows. They are attracted to the glass, so we have the pleasure of observing them closely from inside the house.

They are the sweetest little things and seem so full of pep. The way they hop around admiring their own reflections always makes me smile.

I am so grateful to be able to experience this connection with nature in my pyjamas, cup of tea in hand. It goes to show that connecting with nature doesn’t always have to look a certain way. We can claim these little moments for ourselves and appreciate how simple yet special they are. I hope this yarn brings a little fairy wren magic your way.

What is the Nature Trails Yarn Club?

The Nature Trails Yarn Club is my way of sharing the changing seasons here in the Adelaide Hills with you through colour and story. Each season, I create an exclusive, one-of-a-kind colourway inspired by the natural world right outside my door. Alongside the yarn, you’ll also receive a heartfelt letter from me, sharing the real-life inspiration and little moments of joy that shaped the colourway.

It’s not just about receiving yarn. It’s about slowing down, feeling more connected to nature, and adding a gentle rhythm of creativity and calm into your knitting life.

If you’d like to be part of the Nature Trails Yarn Club, spots are now open for the next season. You can join through my website and let a little piece of the Adelaide Hills land in your letterbox.

Happy knitting ♥️

Rebecca
