New Augustbird Yarn Base, Egret, now available!

Augustbird Yarn Egret Silk Merino blend

I am excited to introduce a new Augustbird yarn base, Egret!

Earlier this year Nan and I discussed ideas for new yarn bases. White Gum Wool is such an amazing, gorgeous fibre on its own but we couldn't help wondering what it might be like to make something extra special by blending it with another fibre. We had been thinking about a sport weight for some time and once we began dreaming of a silk blend, we couldn't seem to put the idea out of our minds. Can you imagine a White Gum Wool/ Silk blend yarn running through your fingers, sliding gracefully over those knitting needles? I sure can! What a heavenly experience that would be!

Nan and I decided to combine forces and make this yarny-dream a reality. We submitted our project to DesignSpun in Napier, NZ and before we knew it the wheels were in motion. Peter and his team have done such a wonderful job and I couldn't be more pleased with how this yarn has come out, it's really something special.

So let me tell you a little more about Egret. She is a sport weight yarn, though will be suitable for many DK projects too with a yardage of 286 metres and a tension of 24 st / 32 rows on 3.75mm needles. With all softness you would expect from White Gum Wool Egret also has the subtle golden sheen of tussah silk. This yarn is not so slippery as many other silk blends on the market nor does it have that heavy drape that many other silk blends do, which is something that makes it quite unique and all the more lovely. It has an understated elegance making it a versatile yarn, not to mention it's an
absolute joy to knit with. Whew I'm gushing!
